Janie Helen Johnson (July 23, 1938 – March 22, 2024) was a beloved mother, educator, veteran, and woman of deep faith whose life reflected quiet strength and compassion. Born in Attapulgus, Georgia, she moved with her family to Somerset County, Maryland as a child and made it her lifelong home.

A graduate of Greenwood High School in Princess Anne, Janie proudly served in the United States Air Force before dedicating her career to education. She worked with Somerset County Public Schools as an assistant teacher at Westover Elementary School, where she helped students develop computer skills until her retirement.

Janie was deeply rooted in her faith and was an active member of several United Methodist churches throughout Somerset County, later sharing fellowship at Jesus Is Lord Church of Deliverance. Known for her gentle spirit and love for God’s people, she was also an avid gardener, admired for her beautiful flower beds and thriving vegetable gardens.

Above all, Janie cherished her family. She is remembered for her grace, devotion, and the love she poured into everyone around her. Her legacy lives on through her children, grandchildren, and the many lives she touched.
