Janye Desanae Harris, lovingly known as NYE to her family, Nae Nae at school, and “Miss Giggles” to just about everyone who meets her, is a joyful force of resilience and light.
Born weighing just 4 pounds, 3.9 ounces, Nye spent her earliest years defying expectations. After surviving a life-threatening seizure at 18 months, she was diagnosed with Wolf-Hirschhorn syndrome. Doctors once said she would not live past her first year—and later said she would never hold her head up, crawl, walk, or speak.
Nye proved them wrong, smiling all the way.
A fun spirit with a constant grin and an infectious giggle, Nye learned by watching her sisters and keeping pace in her own way. Her oldest sister, Aveon, helped lead the way, and her youngest sister, Kamoni, taught her how to ride a bike—first with training wheels, then without. Love, laughter, and determination carried her forward.
A proud graduate of Washington High School in Princess Anne, Maryland, Nye is the daughter of Tina and DyAnglo Harris. Now 22, when asked what comes next, her answer—delivered with a smile—is simple:
“Live life.”

Janye Harris — My daughter, an amazing soul who will make you smile even when you didn’t know you needed one.
