Norman George Tilghman was a lifelong servant to education, faith, and community in Princess Anne, Maryland. A 1966 graduate of Maryland State College (now the University of Maryland Eastern Shore), he earned a BA in Social Science with a minor in French and later a Master of Education in Guidance and Counseling.

He pastored United Methodist churches while still a college student, taught History and French in public schools, served in the U.S. Army, and devoted nearly 40 years to UMES. His roles included Residence Counselor, Assistant Director of Admissions, and Director of the federally funded Upward Bound Program, preparing first-generation and low-income students for college success. He retired in 2010.

Norman was instrumental in the early development of UMES’s student radio station, the forerunner of WESM Radio, and served as President of the UMES Tri-County Alumni Chapter. A lifelong member of Metropolitan United Methodist Church, he lived by the principles of integrity, service, and compassion. His legacy continues through his students, family, and the countless lives he touched.
