Mother, Author, Coach, Trainer, Educator, Public Speaker, Commissioner AT-Large and currently the President of the Town of Princess Anne.

Shelley Y. Johnson, a native of Upper Hill, MD. Daughter of Melvin Johnson and Lucille Hayward. She attended Somerset County Public Schools, in Princess Anne MD.


She graduated from Washington High School in 1996. She attended Delmarva Beauty School and Ed Smith School of Real Estate, Wor -Wic Community College and UMES (2015) and later found her passion was Education/ Childcare. She opened Figi 4 the kids Family Daycare, which she loves, after resigning from the Public School System in Somerset County in 2021, after 8 years. Recently opening a second location in October 2025 She has since started several organizations. Women with a Divine Purpose, Boss Up Networking and President of Figi 4 the Kids INC. She is also the Coalition Coordinator for Figi 4 the kids Drug Free Coalition. She also started the first Cheerleading squad, for Somerset Intermediate. Johnson is a Certified Life Coach, Certified Mindfulness Instructor, Certified Community Health Worker and a Certified Peer Recovery Coach. Johnson was given a Merit Award from the Town of Princess Anne in 2021, for establishing the FIRST Juneteenth in Princess Anne. Johnson was nominated as Somerset County Person of the Year for 2023. In 2023 Johnson had a vision to do a Black History Bus Tour. In 2024 during Black History month, Johnson had the First ever black history bus tour for Somerset County, Md.


Johnson works diligently in her community. She is an active member in several organizations. Somerset County Prevention Works Drug Free Coalition where she serves as the coordinator. Somerset Lynching Truth and Reconciliation Committee, assistant Secretary of the Somerset County NAACP. Johnson serves as Secretary of the Caucus of African American Leaders of the Eastern Shore. A board member of Local System Board for Somerset County. Johnson was elected Commissioner AT-Large for the Town of Princess Anne in June of 2022, and has now been appointed to serve on the MML Committee for Diversity, Equality, Inclusion and Accessibility, ESAM Legislative Committee member representing for Somerset County, a board member of Tri-County Council and a Board Member for Shore Up Inc. Johnson has announced her candidacy in November 2025 for Maryland State Delegate District 38A. 

 

Johnson became a co- author in a Women’s Book Collaboration Book in 2019, “It takes Money Honey”, where she talks about her leap of faith and encouraging others to do the same, which became a BEST AMAZON SELLER IN 2019. Her mission is to educate, empower and equip individuals and entrepreneurs to BOSS UP. 

2020 Johnson published, 90 days of Motivation to Renew, Restore and Refresh your mind, body and soul. Which goes with her #getattached projects. She is also the author of her upcoming book “Wounded but Not Broken”. Johnson is the mother of three awesome children Jyrell, Brooke and Eric Ballard Jr, and three wonderful grandchildren Brielle Jones, Brinley Ballard and Brayson Jones. Her children and grandchildren are her absolute WORLD! Her favorite saying is, “Keep God first, Family second and everything else will fall into place”.
